Playgroup Programmes

Victoria Playpark offers three infant and toddler playgroup programmes that harness play-based learning to nurture children’s whole person development. Our programmes are play-based, comprising storytelling, language learning, multisensory play, fine and gross motor development and music and art classes, with the goals of fostering children’s communication skills (I CAN SPEAK), inquiry skills (I CAN EXPLORE) and empathy (I CAN FEEL, AND I CARE). We ask parents/caregivers to attend each session, as the partnership between parents/caregivers and teachers creates a vital support network that nurtures children’s development.

Infant

8-12 months

Infants will develop concepts about themselves, their immediate surroundings and the people around them through partaking in a variety of play-based activities. Sensory stimulation, gross and fine motor skills are particularly emphasised in this playgroup programme. Infants will explore a range of materials, textures, sounds and smells using movement and their five senses. Our teachers will also offer important parenting tips and suggestions which can be incorporated into parent-child activities at home.

Extension of Infant Programme – “Infant Plus*” is available to offer extended learning opportunities for gross and fine motor skills.

Toddler

12-24 months

Toddlers will be introduced to theme-based activities that take place in our six learning stations. Through these activities, children will learn to associate a particular theme with specific objects, people, and events, enabling them to form connections. Our playgroup programme will encourage toddlers to learn skills beneficial for this age group through play-based activities such as symbolic play using different objects (e.g. pretending a box is a house to enhance imaginary skills), gross motor skills (e.g. moving with ease from crawling to standing to walking) and fine motor skills (e.g. grasping, threading, and pressing). Our teachers will continue to offer essential parenting tips and suggestions which can be incorporated into parent-child activities at home.

Extension of Toddler Programme – “Toddler Plus” is available to offer extended learning opportunities for self-care skills, independence and character development.

Big Kid

24-36 months

Big Kids will be introduced to more advanced theme-based activities in our six learning stations. Besides learning to make connections amongst objects, people and events, children will be guided to use language to describe these connections, and to express their ideas and feelings during the learning activities. To prepare children for a smooth transition into prenursery or kindergarten education, a particular emphasis will be given to children’s self-care, emotional regulation and social skills. In the area of social skills, children will be encouraged not only to play alongside one another (parallel play) but also to play with one another (early forms of collaborative play). Our teachers will continue to offer essential parenting tips and suggestions which can be incorporated into parent-child activities at home.
